November 28th Newsletter
Acequia Madre Families
,

If you are NOT receiving e-mails from Mrs. Casaus, please send an email to kcasaus@sfps.k12.nm.us with the correct e-mail address, your name, your child’s name and grade, or contact the office.

I would like to thank Keren James, Emily Waltz, Adrienne Harvitz, Sarah Guzman, Jonika Horton, Sobia Sayeda, Maggie Harshbarger, and all the people that organized and helped with our fundraiser, ”A NIGHT WITH OUR STARS.”  I also want to thank all of the parents and community members that attended.  As a first-timer, I was so impressed with the scope of this event and touched by the incredible performances and artwork from our students.  It is such an honor to be part of this committed community.

We are experiencing some challenges with students being tardy.  You as parents paid for and supported the implementation of the Responsive Classroom curriculum to support our students.  Our teachers are committed to using the program and have a Morning Meeting every day at 8:00 am.  When a student arrives late, it disrupts this process.  The teacher AND students are distracted by the arriving student.  And I’m sure the late student is feeling embarrassed and left out of the Morning Meeting activities. Please make sure your child arrives at school no later than 7:50 am. Thank you for your respect of our educational programs and dedication to giving our students everything they need to be successful.

For our Families in 1st through 4th grade – Please read and fill out the violin protection policy sent home with your student by next Monday, December 3rd.

We are working on an interactive Lego display in our hallway.  If you have any Legos that are just taking up space in your home, please send them in for us to use with our new project!! We appreciate any donations!

Boys Basketball will hold try-outs for 5th and 6th grade next Tuesday, December 4th, at 5:15 in the Acequia Madre Gym.

From the Music and Performance Teachers, Ms. Kat and Ms. Montez

Parent volunteers are needed on Tuesday, Dec 11th to decorate the gym for the Winter Show!  Volunteers are also needed the morning of Thursday, Dec 13th to take down decorations from 8-9.

If you are willing/able to help design and create the program from the Winter Show, or if you can volunteer to decorate, please contact Ms. Keener at kkeener@sfps.k12.nm.us.

Thank you and we look forward to seeing you at the Winter Shows on December 11th and 12th! Remember that 2nd grade through 6th grade will perform both evening.  Students in Ms. Tanya’s kindergarten and Ms. Katie’ 1st grade will perform on Tuesday night only.  Students in Ms. Lisa’s kindergarten will perform on Wednesday night only.

Kat Keener and Rachel Montez

From the Library – Margaret Hennessey:

Our Scholastic Book Fair will be held next week, 12/4-12/7. Your child will be invited during their library time to come down and shop. I will NOT be available after school for purchases, Tuesday through Thursday. I will also come in on my day off Friday to open the Book Fair from 12-2. Please send your child with dollars to spend, although emptying the piggy bank may seem like a sweet idea, counting coins at check out slows things down considerably. There will be items for as little as fifty cents to fifty dollars.

See you at the Book Fair !!!

Margaret Hennessey

From the Health Office, Ms. Melanie and Ms. Lucy:

We hope all of you had wonderful Thanksgiving holidays with your loved ones. First of all, I want to apologize for a misprint in the last newsletter! The flu clinic is scheduled for December 4th and permission slips are due this week, Wednesday Nov. 28th. Also, thank you to all whom have recently sent extra children’s clothes for our health office; we now have a good supply! Storage is limited, so we will send word in the future when supply gets thin again. We are so grateful to this responsive and supportive community!

Yours in health,

Nurse Melanie and Ms. Lucy, Health Aide

Our next PTC Meeting will be held this Thursday, November 29th, at 5:30 pm.  We look forward to seeing you there!
