Created in June 2025 in partnership between SFPS’s WAVE program and New Mexicans to Prevent Gun Violence at the Santa Fe Teen Center (6600 Valentine Way).

Created in 2025 by Santa Fe youth, this mural reflects the challenges young people face—such as violence, discrimination, and mental health challenges—as well as the resilience, resources, support, and hope that help them thrive. It honors the voices of young people while reminding us of their strength, dreams, and capacity to inspire change, along with their love for the community of Santa Fe.

Stop by the Santa Fe Teen Center to view the outdoor wall mural. Scan the QR code to check out the augmented reality components, and hear an amazing spoken word poem by Santa Fe
Youth Poet Laureate, Sofia Salazar.

If you See Something, Say Something.

Students can report their concerns via the Say Something reporting system – whether it’s a possible threat or they are worried about a friend’s safety.

All reports are taken seriously and are immediately reported to the appropriate SFPS personnel.

Take the pledge against gun violence!

Commit to never bringing a gun to school and to never using guns to solve problems.

Since 1996, over 10 million youth nationwide have signed the Student Pledge Against Gun Violence. The Pledge encourages young people to abstain from contributing to gun violence, including bringing a gun to school.

The Pledge is available in older and younger versions, as well as English and Spanish.

Anyone can take the pledge, even teachers, parents, and community members!

SFPS Gun Violence Prevention Week
March 2 - 6, 2026

KEEPING OUR STUDENTS SAFE BY PREVENTING GUN VIOLENCE

For many young people, concerns about gun violence are part of the world they navigate every day.

SFPS Gun Violence Prevention Week raises awareness, promotes early intervention, and highlights practical steps that help keep students safe and supported.

This campaign is anti-gun violence, not anti-gun, and recognizes the importance of outdoor and hunting traditions for many New Mexico families.

We are empowering students to shape a culture of safety in their schools by:
Taking the Student Pledge Against Gun Violence
Use Say Something to report safety concerns.
Reach out if you need help with a conflict, stress, or other challenges. Talk to a trusted adult, or call 988 or another helpline.

Thank you for supporting Gun Violence Prevention Week.

BIG news worth celebrating! 🎉📣

A message from Dr. D, school principal of AMES,

It was brought to my attention last weekend that last year’s state testing scores were made public , and WOW… Acequia Madre earned the 2nd-highest score in the district (80.0%!) 🤯🙌 Just behind Mandela Middle/High!

These incredible results reflect strong growth and achievement across the board:
📊 Math growth: 76th percentile
📚 Reading growth: 63rd percentile
📖 Reading proficiency: 66%
➕ Math proficiency: 56%
🔬 Science proficiency: 82%
🏫 Attendance: 91%

In EVERY category, we are well above district averages! While our sample size is small (so some fluctuations are expected, especially in science), and we know standardized tests aren’t the whole story, we are beyond proud of what this represents.

This is what happens when engaged families, amazing students, and a passionate, dedicated staff come together. 💛✨

Thank you for believing in us, supporting us, and helping us create something truly special. The magic is real! ✨🏫💫

At Acequia Madre Elementary, winter holidays shine a little brighter because of the traditions we create together. From the magic of our Winter Showcases, to the Kinder Buddies’ sweet gingerbread candy houses, to the 5th grade’s giant, glittering snowflakes dancing in the hallways, every corner of our school tells a story of creativity, care, and community. Add in the much-loved annual White Elephant gift exchange among staff (equal parts laughter, surprises, and who brought this?!), and it’s clear that joy is a shared tradition here. And when the entire school comes together to bring the Annual Christmas Eve Farolito Walk to life, that story truly glows.

Winter holidays are a special time at Acequia Madre, rooted in culture, connection, and celebration.

Now have you ever walked down Canyon Road / Acequia Madre Street on Christmas Eve and paused to admire the simple beauty of a brown paper bag and a single tealight candle? If you haven’t, consider this your sneak peek at how something so simple can light up a whole community. 🕯️💛
